This weekend, Paris, France will be turned out as thousands, including yours truly, will flock to the “City of Lights” to celebrate the first annual Black Pride weekend. Lead by Paris Black Pride organizers Johan Amaranthe and Brian Scott Bagley, the weekend’s schedule of events was just released with all the details in both English and French.
Paris Black Pride, a French non-profit organization, launches its first “Paris Black Pride Weekend” on Friday July 15 through Sunday July 17, 2016 at venues across the French capital. The inaugural weekend is decided to the lives and legacies of Josephine Baker and James Baldwin, two LGBT people of color who called France home. As an organization, we seek to celebrate the diversity of France’s LGBT people of color and their allies. Paris Black Pride will also foster dialogue about increasing the social inclusion and visibility of LGBT people of color in France and across Europe. The weekend will include a meet & greet cocktail, a panel discussion, an history walk of “Black Paris”, an art exhibition and a picnic in addition to a series of parties.
The Hotel Joséphine, located in Paris’ famous Pigalle neighborhood is the official hotel of Paris Black Pride 2016. The hotel is named after Baker.
Workshops, Black LGBT cinema, panel discussions, art exhibitions and — of course — nightclub parties fill up the weekend to give visitors a great mix of culture, community and fun during the inaugural Paris Black Pride weekend.
