Earlier this week, New York philanthropist and popular dance recording artist Sir Ivan invited special guests, including yours truly, to a special screening of his documentary “SIR IVAN: I Am Peaceman.”
The documentary detailed his life how he wanted to leave his very lucrative career in the banking industry and pursue his dreams of being a pop music star at age 45. Because of his parents’ tenacity of being Holocaust survivors and becoming wealthy business leaders, SIR IVAN learned by his parents’ example on how to build his own wealth, and later his success for his real passion singing. With his dance music career, SIR IVAN planned to make every single he released to be tied to a campaign that benefits an oppressed group in society.
In 2005, SIR IVAN released the hit single “Kiss The Bullies Goodbye,” featuring pop music icon Taylor Dayne, to support LGBT anti-bullying initiatives.
After the screening of “I Am Peaceman,” SIR IVAN spoke in front the viewing audience about how important philanthropy is important to his musicianship. He called up The Trevor Project’s Executive Director Abbe Land to join him in front of the audience to provide her a $10,000 to help provide services for transgender suicide prevention.
Transgender awareness is a new area of focus for Sir Ivan’s Peaceman Foundation, which has been a longtime ally for LGBT issues, fighting hate crime, bullying and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He and The Peaceman Foundation donated $100,000 to The Trevor Project in 2012, and earlier this year they donated and additional $100,000 to ten different anti-bullying organizations.
Following the film, we were invited to SIR IVAN’s Soho “PeacePad,” which was this amazing condo decorated in colorful blacklight images symbolizing peace, love and sexual liberation from floor to ceiling in almost every room. The condo is definitely a party space for a euphoric night. “I Don’t Care” singer Aaron Paul, androgynous model Rain Dove, “Orange is the New Black” stars Farrah Krenek and Selenis Levya, “Real Housewives of New York” alum Sonja Morgan, celebrity publicists Johnny Donovan and Ra-Fael Blanco, and reality-TV stars Frankie Grande and Tabasum Mir were in attendance at the festive shinding where we were treated to dinner vittles and champagne all night long.
