Well. Well. Well. Look what talented crooner finally started YouTube channel for us fans to adore his talent and career. It is none other than “I’m Ready” crooner Tevin Campbell.
As one of the biggest teen heartthrobs of the 1990’s who wowed young (and mature) audiences with his impressive vocal abilities while performing #1 singles “Goodbye” “Can We Talk” and “Alone With You,” Tevin’s popularity stayed strong throughout the 1990’s against fellow R&B titans including R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Babyface and Whitney Houston. With nine Top 10 R&B hits under his belt by age 18, Campbell’s future looked bright while transitioning into an adult after the run of his most successful album “I’m Ready” during 1994. Years later, those hopes were shattered after an embarrassing sex scandal which led to an arrest in 1999, and the sound of R&B became less sophisticated and more hip-hop with his contemporaries Usher, R. Kelly and Sisqo leading the pack.
After 1999, Campbell made no noise in the music world with hits or new single and has led a relatively low key life. Campbell has been working the Broadway circuit in New York City for years to critical acclaim at many of his stints. Only if a major record would invest in his comeback to dominate adult R&B radio…one day, hopefully.
For us fans that enjoyed Campbell’s hits throughout the 1990s, the tenor himself dropped a home recording his signature song “Can We Talk.” The Babyface written and produced jam became a #1 hit during the fall of 1993 as it was the lead single to his double-platinum selling sophomore LP “I’m Ready.”
Does Campbell still have the vocal chops? Of course, he does. Press play to hear them for yourself.
