C.C. Carter Performs At “Art & Soul” In Chicago

CC Carter

Spoken word artist C.C. Carter performed a riveting set of poetry over familiar instrumental tunes at the Art & Soul event in Chicago last month.  The legendary poet delivered messages of self-love, empowerment and sensuality over tunes including “Rock Steady” (Aretha Franklin) and “Golden” (Jill Scott).  This was our first time catching Ms. Carter in action – which was looooooooooooong overdue – and was blown away by her mic skills.  Plus, she was a beam of sunshine to meet in person.  We love her!

Check out her performance mash-up below.

THE G-SCENE Hits Up “Art & Soul” In Chicago [VIDEO]

Art & Soul Chicago - November 2011-6

The G-Scene stopped by Chicago’s Boystown neighborhood to attend the anniversary celebration of “Art & Soul,” a live music and spoken event featuring LGBT people of color and allies.  Anthony Galloway of No Wire Hangers produced the event and brought on highly lauded performers including Tim’m West, C.C. Carter and Buttafly Soul.  Up-and-coming R&B singer Brian Alwyn and critically acclaimed rapper Kaoz also represented on stage.  The live music event included Grammy-nominated R&B singer Syleena Johnson who sang a few hits from her past catalog of music and her new single from her recently released album Chapter V.

Check out the highlights from the event in the video below which also includes performances from open-mic spoken word artists.  Most of them dug deep into their innermost sexual thoughts which captivated the audience’s attention with a little shock and awe.
