Frank Ocean

“Pyramids” crooner Frank Ocean may have been overlooked for nominations at the BET Awards, but the O Music Awards have crowned him king recently as their nominations announced.  We never heard of the O Music Awards, but we find their categories very interesting as it seems to be artistry and superficiality of the music industry.  Check out the nominees below.

Frank Ocean and Beck top this year’s O Music Awards with two nominations each.

On June 19, the awards return with a “Make a Band Famous” competition, performances from across the country and a drum-a-thon led by The Roots band leader and drummer Questlove.

@RodMcCullom’s Rod 2.0 Wins @GLAAD Media’s “Outstanding Blog Of The Year”

Rod McCullom

The G-List Society is inspired by the very best, and it is no secret that Rod 2.0 and Rod McCullom, my mentor, is one of most reliable bloggers in LGBT media.  Just when some of our readers assumed that people of color are not highly praised by the GLAAD organization, they should be glad to know that McCullom’s Rod 2.0 blog won GLAAD Media’s Outstanding Blog of 2013 award over the weekend.

Rod20-GLAADaward2013

Although my friend is shy when it comes to the spotlight, Rod 2.0′s recognition is well-deserved.  His coverage of news highlighting the LGBT community is unmatched.  Outside of his race, his spotlight on the LGBT coverage is widespread upon race, region and identification.  Very, very, very few LGBT outlets can say the same for themselves.

McCullom is an Black LGBT icon before our very eyes.  Without a site like his, many of your favorite Black LGBT online media personalities would not have the powerful platforms they have.  We all learned from someone, and they would be lying if they did not draw any inspiration from Rod 2.0.

Congratulations, Rod!!! I hope you win next year, unless you’re up against The G-List Society…LOL

Rosa Parks “Forever” U.S. Stamp Debuts Today

Rosa Parks

U.S. POSTAL SERVICE ROSA PARKS

On what would have been her 100th birthday, the U.S. Postal Service issued the Rosa Parks Forever Stamp during the National Day of Courage celebration today at The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.

Those who came to dedicate the stamp were Patricia Mooradian, president, The Henry Ford Museum; Carolyn House Stewart, international president, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and the Spain School of Excellence Concert Choir. Honored guests were U.S. Senator Carl Levin, Reps. John Conyers and Gary Peters, civil rights activist Julian Bond, and Elaine Eason Steele, co-founder, Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development.

The National Day of Courage was established to encourage every American to take a stand and commit themselves to do something courageous just as Parks did on December 1, 1955, when she refused to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama city bus. That singular act of courage helped spark the civil rights movement and a new era in the American quest for freedom and equality.

Customers may view the Rosa Parks Forever Stamp and preview other stamps to be issued in 2013 at http://www.usps.com/stamps.

.@OfficialMeshell @Frank__Ocean @Rihanna @4EverBrandy Top Our Best R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Of 2012

album-frankocean

album-miguel

2012 may have a relatively quiet year for R&B and hip-hop music that can stand the test of time, The G-List Society compiled a list of 12 mainstream soul, R&B and hip-hop that made the sounds of soul relevant in a dance-pop world.

While some of our favorite musicians including Monica, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Young Jeezy and Usher failed their R&B and hip-hop fanbases this year, take a glance at the 12 albums that pleased R&B and hip-hop fans while providing minutes of ear candy.

Instead of providing a lengthy, irrelevant review of each album, we provided a one sentence summary that explains the essence of each album.

2012 Porn Stars

Sorry, ladies.  You may bypass this post unless you are familiar with Black gay porn. Mmmm hmmmm…no judgment!  LOL

Also for The G-List Society readers, though you will not find pornographic photos and videos on this blog, porn stars and films will occasionally be topics of discussion here on The G-List Society, especially throughout 2013.

How does The G-List Society follow up a controversial list of its 50 most influential Black LGBT personalities that was the talk of town last week?  We discovered a list from Dunkin’s Playground website, an adult entertainment blog featuring gay men of color, where the top 25 men of Black gay porn of 2012 were ranked.  Of course, curiosity was piqued and the list had to be perused.  This very interesting list boast current superstars, a couple of icons and unfamiliar names here.  However, you might find a few shockers as it was done by us.

Drum roll, please. Check out the list below of Dunkin’s Playground’s Top 25 Black Gay Porn Stars of 2012.

BLACK GAYS ROCK!!! 50 Most Impressionable, Influential & Inspirational Black LGBT Personalities Of 2012 (Pt. 2)

Will Williams

Black Gays Rock 4

When noticing that more than 37,000 people read BLACK GAYS ROCK!!! 50 Most Impressionable, Influential & Inspirational Black LGBT Personalities Of 2012 (Pt. 1) that debuted on Friday, The G-List Society could not be any happier than to unveil the top 20 people of 2012.  Again, there will be a couple of surprises that are on this list as well as not making the entire top 50. The top two slots would not have been your guess on this list or picks until you read and understand why.  With that aside, let’s set egos aside and celebrate the people who really made huge impressions in 2012.

Drum roll please…

50-WassupNATL

20. Wassup N ATL and founder/CEO Mario Harris (party promoter)

For the past decade, the Black gay/lesbian party scenes have seen so many great promoting groups’ come and go over disbanding associates, greed, retirement or lack of community interest to the point that people cannot keep up with what or who is new and current in the scene.  Since 2002, Wassup N ATL has become a fixture in Atlanta’s social scene with weekly parties and pride events that revelers gather until capacity.  Harris now travels the Wassup N ATL brand with “Invasion” events that extend to additional major cities including Washington DC, New York and Charlotte.

50-DeBorah

19. De’Borah (singer/TV star)

This beautifully gifted singer from Chicago stole the hearts of America this fall as the somewhat shy yet very personable talent who graced the hit TV singing competition “The Voice.”  De’Borah instantly inspired many viewers on the first episode of the season as she revealed her lesbian identity.  Her fans were also enamored with her religious family’s support.  The media could not get enough of De’Borah, her talent, her fashion and her charisma up until the very episode where coach Christina Aguilera [wrongfully] eliminated her [in favor one of least impressionable contestants].  The future seems bright for this Chicago songbird who avows her love of karaoke and cites Ellen DeGeneres as her fashion inspiration.

@Rihanna Ties @JanetJackson For Most Dance/Club #1 Hits; Trails @Madonna

Rihanna3

From Mariah Carey’s Billboard Hot 100 #1 hits record to Madonna’s top ten hits records, “Diamonds” singer Rihanna is coming to snatch the record-breaking achievements that these legends along with the Beatles and Elvis Pressley own.

As already announced as the queen of the Pop Radio Songs chart from the musical bible Billboard magazine, the trusted periodical announced that Rihanna’s “Diamonds” single landing atop of the Billboard Dance/Club Play charts this week ties her with Janet Jackson as the #2 artist with the most number one hits on that tally.

With “Diamonds” serving as her 19th #1 hit on that chart, Rihanna surpassed her level with “Single Ladies” star  Beyonce, who holds 18 on the tally. Madonna’s record-breaking 36 #1′s on that chart seems unreachable…for now.
