2012 Porn Stars

Sorry, ladies.  You may bypass this post unless you are familiar with Black gay porn. Mmmm hmmmm…no judgment!  LOL

Also for The G-List Society readers, though you will not find pornographic photos and videos on this blog, porn stars and films will occasionally be topics of discussion here on The G-List Society, especially throughout 2013.

How does The G-List Society follow up a controversial list of its 50 most influential Black LGBT personalities that was the talk of town last week?  We discovered a list from Dunkin’s Playground website, an adult entertainment blog featuring gay men of color, where the top 25 men of Black gay porn of 2012 were ranked.  Of course, curiosity was piqued and the list had to be perused.  This very interesting list boast current superstars, a couple of icons and unfamiliar names here.  However, you might find a few shockers as it was done by us.

BLACK GAYS ROCK!!! 50 Most Impressionable, Influential & Inspirational Black LGBT Personalities Of 2012 (Pt. 2)

Will Williams

Black Gays Rock 4

When noticing that more than 37,000 people read BLACK GAYS ROCK!!! 50 Most Impressionable, Influential & Inspirational Black LGBT Personalities Of 2012 (Pt. 1) that debuted on Friday, The G-List Society could not be any happier than to unveil the top 20 people of 2012.  Again, there will be a couple of surprises that are on this list as well as not making the entire top 50. The top two slots would not have been your guess on this list or picks until you read and understand why.  With that aside, let’s set egos aside and celebrate the people who really made huge impressions in 2012.

Drum roll please…

50-WassupNATL

20. Wassup N ATL and founder/CEO Mario Harris (party promoter)

For the past decade, the Black gay/lesbian party scenes have seen so many great promoting groups’ come and go over disbanding associates, greed, retirement or lack of community interest to the point that people cannot keep up with what or who is new and current in the scene.  Since 2002, Wassup N ATL has become a fixture in Atlanta’s social scene with weekly parties and pride events that revelers gather until capacity.  Harris now travels the Wassup N ATL brand with “Invasion” events that extend to additional major cities including Washington DC, New York and Charlotte.

50-DeBorah

19. De’Borah (singer/TV star)

This beautifully gifted singer from Chicago stole the hearts of America this fall as the somewhat shy yet very personable talent who graced the hit TV singing competition “The Voice.”  De’Borah instantly inspired many viewers on the first episode of the season as she revealed her lesbian identity.  Her fans were also enamored with her religious family’s support.  The media could not get enough of De’Borah, her talent, her fashion and her charisma up until the very episode where coach Christina Aguilera [wrongfully] eliminated her [in favor one of least impressionable contestants].  The future seems bright for this Chicago songbird who avows her love of karaoke and cites Ellen DeGeneres as her fashion inspiration.

THE LIST: 14 Music Artists Who Sold 1 Million Albums In A Week

1Million-Lady Gaga

Though the final report will run next week, album sales analysts have predicted that country-pop superstar Taylor Swift’s new album Red will sell more than 1 million copies in its debut week.  Red hit store shelves yesterday and has become a #1 seller in many countries around the world.  If the album does accomplish the huge feat of selling more than 1 million copies, the “Ronan” singer’s album will be the 17th album to join the one-million-plus sales club.  The “Mean” entertainer is already on the list as her previous blockbuster album Speak Now sold 1.047 million units during its first week in October 2010.

Who are the other thirteen artists (and 16 albums) who have accomplished the huge feat of selling more than one million units in one week?  Some of these artists may surprise you as I was surprised when these triumphs occurred.  Three rappers, four boy bands, three pop divas, two country entertainers, one smooth jazz songstress and one R&B crooner achieved the one-million-plus club.

Check out the list of the 14 music superstars who sold more than 1 million units of an album in a week (since 1991′s SoundScan implementation of accurate counting).  It must be noted that Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Prince’s Purple Rain soundtrack album sold a million copies in a sales week before the SoundScan era.  Did you favorite artist make the cut?

LAND THAT JOB: 10 Overused Phrases Interviewers Hate

job interview

Being grilled by a prospect employer can be one of the most nerve-wrecking situations to find yourself.  Whatever you say, how you respond and how you appear are some of the factors that determine whether you landed that job.  You never know specifically what the interviewer is seeking from that qualified candidate from the questions asked; however, there are certain phrases you should refrain from using when answering questions by an interviewer.

Monster.com released a list of ten phrases to avoid when answering questions during a job interviewer.  These common phrases can make you appear disingenuous or lacking knowledge on what you are talking about.

Interviews are hard. You’re nervous. You’re usually in close quarters. You have to answer question after question with little recovery time. And your entire professional future seems to hang in the balance of this one encounter. It’s no wonder so many interviewees resort to clichés when answering interview questions.

But panicked responses aren’t going to land you that job. So we’ve shined a spotlight on the 10 most common overused interview answers and given you some alternative answers that will carry more weight and keep you
on track for success.

1. “I’m Really Hardworking.”

In a job interview, everyone is hardworking. No one is going to admit to being lazy or not caring about their job. The word “hardworking” is at this point pretty much white noise to most interviewers. Everyone says it, so how can it possibly add value to your image? You only have so much time in a job interview — make every word count.

ALTERNATIVES: Try giving specific examples of why you’re so hardworking. Do you often stay late? Do you take on extra assignments? It’s always a good idea to give the interviewer something tangible to consider, otherwise your words could end up feeling like empty promises.

2. “I’m a Total Team Player.”

While being able to work with others is key, phrasing it this way makes it sound clichéd. And it doesn’t just suggest cheerleading imagery — it’s also very vague. Sure, no one wants a recluse for a coworker or employee, but beyond just the baseline ability to be social, what else do you bring to the communication table?

ALTERNATIVES: Talk about your ability to communicate with other members of your office. Cite specific examples of times when it was imperative for you to play well with others. Also touch on certain stellar communication skills that you think you have. Know how to craft the perfect email? Spent a lot of time with clients on the phone? Give the interviewer a fuller picture of your interactive skills and leadership potential.

3. “I am Loyal to a Fault.”

You’re not a dog, so why are you comparing yourself to one? While loyalty is a noble trait, no employer really believes that you are going to sacrifice your own well being or advancement for the company. No one knows how they will fit into a company until they are there. If you preach the virtues of loyalty in the interview but end up hating the job and moving on in six months, it reflects badly on your professionalism.

ALTERNATIVES: Be honest. Lay out your long-term goals for that particular company. If you want to use this position to gain experience and then move on to loftier goals, let them know. Your drive and honesty will be just as valuable as your loyalty. And it will give the company incentive to keep you engaged, so they can hold on to you as long as possible.

4. “How Much Does It Pay?”

This is one of the most annoying questions for most interviewers. You’ll find out how much the job pays when you get the offer. Until then, you should focus on the position and how you can contribute to the company. No matter how you phrase the question, asking about money at this stage only makes you look like you’re just in it for the money. Even if that’s true, is that how you want to come off?

ALTERNATIVES: If finding out the salary is really that important to you, ask to talk to other employees on your level, ones who won’t be making the hiring decision, to get an idea of work environment. Then, ask them about the benefits package and compensation. But trust us — don’t make it all about the money.

5. “I Can Take on Any Challenge.”

Let’s be honest, you’re not Superman. Even he couldn’t take on every challenge. You are only human, and you have your limitations. Saying you can take on anything only sets you up for failure in the end. Don’t let your desperation for a job be the kryptonite to your career development!

ALTERNATIVES: Try something like, “I’m quick and can pick things up pretty easily.” There’s always a learning curve with any new task, but the quicker you can learn the ins and outs, the more efficient you will look to your boss. Be realistic about your limitations. If you can’t complete the tasks you promised you could, your boss might start to doubt your abilities in other areas.

6. “My Current Boss Loves Me.”

In most cases, your interviewer doesn’t know your current boss, so there is no point of reference here. An interview is specifically about you and your job skills, not what others think of you. Your references will be more than happy to speak on your behalf when the time comes, if you get that far in the hiring process.

ALTERNATIVES: Think of why your current boss values you. Were there specific projects that you aced? Are you efficient and always on time? What makes you stand out? Take all those reasons and verbalize them during the interview. Giving specific examples not only shows concrete proof of your skills, but also that you know what your strengths are.

7. “You Would Be Crazy Not to Hire Me.”

First, never call your interviewer crazy, even if it’s a figure of speech. Second, you’re one of a dozen or more candidates they may be taking to. There is no way you can be sure you are the most qualified person for the job. If anything, it just makes you look desperate and dramatic. Don’t be that guy.

ALTERNATIVES: It’s true, the end of an interview can be awkward, but don’t resort to more awkward clichés. When ending an interview, it’s always good to summarize the key points about the conversation you just had. Leave the interviewer thinking about the many reasons you are the one they want as they leave the room.

8. “I’ll Do Anything.”

Never resort to begging in an interview. Why would you want to sound desperate? Most employers are looking for poised, confident professionals who are interested in advancing their careers. If you resort to begging, it looks like you don’t really care about the job and just want any kind of steady income.

ALTERNATIVES: Try to funnel your desperation into enthusiasm for the job. Make sure they know that you value the position and not just the paycheck. Mention specific parts of the job that you are excited about diving in to and even give examples of projects you’re already thinking about. This will show how much you want the job without sounding desperate.

9. “I Think I’m the Perfect Fit for This Job.”

It’s a rare occasion when someone fits a job perfectly. If the interviewer doesn’t agree with you, they may question your understanding of the position as a whole. Enthusiasm is good, but it’s better to present a realistic view of the job and show that you have a strong understanding of what the requirements will be.

ALTERNATIVES: You may not be the perfect fit for the job, but if you are pretty darn close, give them the reasons why. List specific examples of why you think you would thrive in that role and how the company would benefit from your specific experience. Make sure you are addressing every part of the job description and how you fit into each throughout the interview.

10. “I Wasn’t Appreciated at My Last Job.”

This is a fancy way of saying that you and your previous employer didn’t get along. Now the interviewer is wondering why there was an issue and if the same problems will arise if they hire you. Even if it was your employer’s fault, saying this out loud makes you seem like you could be difficult to work with or too demanding.

ALTERNATIVES: Keep any digs or trash talking about your previous employer to a minimum. You don’t want to get the interviewer even thinking about negative things. If they ask why you left, tell them your career path did not line up with the company’s goals for you. Never make it personal. Keep it in the context of your career development.

8 Surprising Facts You Didn’t Know About Your Penis

male anatomy1

One of the most sensitive parts of the male anatomy as well as the most sensitive body part to talk about is the male’s penis.  When the conversations of one’s penis is engaged, some talkers seem that have much to pride themselves while others may feel humbled.  We have had our own scientific and health assumptions about the size, circumcisions and sexual practices of the male penis.  After reading this article from WebMD, some of our assumptions and the braggadocios blabber about each others’ penises have surprisingly opposed the medical facts we have listed below.

From actual penis lengths and erogenous zones to religious views on circumcisions and healthy penis exercises, we are guaranteed that you will learn at least a point or two about your own penis.

No. 1: Use It or Lose It

You need to have erections regularly to keep your penis in shape. “It has to be essentially exercised,” says Tobias Kohler, MD, MPH, assistant professor of urology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, in Springfield, IL.

To maintain a healthy tone, the smooth muscle of the penis must be periodically enriched with oxygen by the rush of blood that engorges the penis and makes it erect, Kohler tells WebMD.

If a guy is physically able to get erect, but never has erections during the day — maybe he finds himself in very un-erotic circumstances for a long time — he needn’t worry. The brain has an automatic penis maintenance function built in.

Impulses from the brain cause erections during the dreaming phase of sleep, called the REM phase. It doesn’t matter if you’re having a hot sex dream or a zombie apocalypse nightmare — your penis gets hard during that period of the sleep cycle.

But some men are physically unable to get erections, such as those who’ve suffered trauma to the nerves involved, or who have nerve or blood vessel damage caused by diabetes.

“If they don’t do anything to maintain normal erections, they will get shortening of the penis,” Kohler says. Without regular erections, penile tissue can become less elastic and shrink, making the penis 1-2 centimeters shorter.

A device like a vacuum pump, which forces the penis to swell with blood, can help men with physical erection problems maintain a healthy penis, Kohler says.

No. 2: Your Penis May Be a ‘Grower’ or a ‘Show-er’

Among men, there is no consistent relationship between the size of the flaccid penis and its full erect length.

In one study of 80 men, researchers found that increases from flaccid to erect lengths ranged widely, from less than a quarter-inch to 3.5 inches longer.

Whatever the clinical significance of these data may be, the locker-room significance is considerable. You can’t assume that a dude with a big, limp penis gets much bigger with an erection. And the guy whose penis looks tiny might get a surprisingly big erection.

An analysis of more than a thousand measurements taken by sex researcher Alfred Kinsey shows that shorter flaccid penises tend to gain about twice as much length as longer flaccid penises.

A penis that doesn’t gain much length with an erection has become known as a “show-er,” and a penis that gains a lot is said to be a “grower.” These are not medical terms, and there aren’t scientifically established thresholds for what’s a show-er or a grower.

Kinsey’s data suggest that most penises aren’t extreme show-ers or growers. About 12% of penises gained one-third or less of their total length with an erection, and about 7% doubled in length when erect.

No. 3: The Pleasure Zone

Many men consider the underside of the glans (head) of the penis and the underside of the shaft to be most sensitive to sexual pleasure.

Researchers asked 81 healthy men to rate the erotic sensitivity of different areas of their bodies, including not only the penis, but also zones such as the scrotum, anus, nipples, and neck.

The underside of the glans and underside of the shaft had the highest sensitivity rating for a significant majority of men, followed by the upper side of the glans, left and right sides of the glans, sides of the penis, upper side of the shaft, and foreskin (for the minority of men who were uncircumcised). The study findings were reported in the British Journal of Urology International in 2009.

No. 4: Sensitivity Declines With Age

Studies show that the penis steadily loses sensitivity as men age, though it’s hard to say by how much, exactly. That’s because different researchers have used different ways to stimulate the penis and measure sensitivity.

In general, the sensitivity of the penis is gauged by the least amount of stimulation a man is able to feel. That is called the “sensory threshold.”

Despite differences between studies, the data show a clear trend when taken altogether. From age 25 on, sensitivity starts to decline. The sharpest decline in sensitivity is seen between age 65 and 75.

What’s less clear is whether men really notice a loss of sensitivity as they age.

Kohler tells WebMD that if they are aware of it, his patients seldom mention it.

“It is a super-rare complaint,” he says. “On the other hand, difficulty with erections and difficulty achieving ejaculation are much more common.”

No. 5: Vibrators Work on the Penis, Too

Vibrators aren’t only for women. They work on the penis, too. In fact, vibration is so effective on the penis that often men with spinal cord injuries can ejaculate with the aid of a special medical vibrator. For this kind of treatment, the vibrator is usually held against the underside of the head of the penis.

“Medical-grade vibrators aren’t necessarily more powerful,” Kohler says. The vibrators are tuned to stimulate parts of the nervous system involved in ejaculation. “They work at frequencies or amplitudes that are more specific to the [nerve] pathways.”

Most men wouldn’t need a medical vibrator to trigger an orgasm. Kohler says when patients see him about delayed ejaculation — difficulty reaching orgasm — he suggests they try a store-bought vibrating personal massager.

Although vibrators often help men with ejaculation problems, you don’t have to have any kind of medical condition to use one. You could do it just for fun.

No. 6: There’s More to the Penis Than Meets the Eye

“Most guys would be proud to know that their penis is twice as long as they think it is,” Kohler says.

That’s because half the length of the penis is inside your body. Just like you don’t see all of a big oak tree above ground, you don’t see the root of your penis tucked up inside your pelvis and attached to your pubic bone.

As seen in an MRI picture, an erect penis is shaped like a boomerang.

No. 7: Your Penis Is a Habitat

The skin of your penis is home to a diverse community of bacteria.

Lance Price, PhD, and Cindy Liu, PhD, researchers at the Translational Genomics Research Institute, in Flagstaff, Ariz., used genetic tests to identify the bacteria found on men’s penises. Their study showed there were a total of 42 unique kinds of bacteria inhabiting the skin of the penis.

“We see that the human body is essentially an ecosystem,” Price tells WebMD.

But uncircumcised and circumcised penises don’t have the same variety and abundance of bacteria, the study showed. The researchers first analyzed samples from the penises of 12 men who were planning to get circumcised. Samples were taken and analyzed again after the men were circumcised.

After circumcision, there were fewer kinds of bacteria on the men’s penises. Many of the kinds of bacteria found to be less common or absent after circumcision were anaerobic — meaning that they don’t need oxygen to grow.

The inner fold of the foreskin is a mucous membrane, like the inside of a person’s eyelids. Price tells WebMD that certain anaerobic bacteria thrive in that environment, but not on dry skin.

“I liken it to clear-cutting a forest,” Price says. “You’re going to get a lot more sunlight and you’re going to drastically change the environment.”

The study was done in Uganda, and all of the men studied were Ugandan.

Liu tells WebMD that she would expect to see some variation in the kinds of bacteria found on men in other parts of the world. “I think there is certainly variety even among the Ugandan men themselves,” she says.

But the researchers are less interested in surveying the penile bacteria of the world than in understanding changes brought about by circumcision.

Their research could help explain why circumcision has been linked to a lower risk of getting HIV. One theory is the anaerobic bacteria may prompt the immune system to respond in a way that makes cells more vulnerable to HIV infection.

No. 8: Most Men Aren’t Circumcised

Worldwide, approximately 30% of males aged 15 and older are circumcised, according to a 2007 report from the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNAIDS.

Rates vary greatly depending upon religion and nationality, the report states. Almost all Jewish and Muslim males in the world have circumcised penises, and together they account for almost 70% of all circumcised males globally.

Some research shows that there may be health benefits from circumcision. For instance, circumcised men may be less likely to pass sexually transmitted diseases to their female partners or to develop penile cancer.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) stated in 1999 that medical data was “not sufficient to recommend routine male circumcision,” but that “it is legitimate for parents to take into account cultural, religious, and ethnic traditions, in addition to medical factors” when deciding whether or not to circumcise newborn boys. The AAP reaffirmed that statement in 2005.

The percentage of newborns circumcised in U.S. hospitals climbed from about 55% in 1993 to about 63% in 1999. The percentage tumbled after the AAP outlined its policy on circumcision, to 54.5% in 2009.

The AAP policy on circumcision is still being debated. In recent years, several studies have shown that circumcised men are less likely to be infected with HIV. The WHO and UNAIDS now recommend male circumcision as an HIV prevention measure. “There is compelling evidence that male circumcision reduces the risk of heterosexually acquired HIV infection in men by approximately 60%,” the WHO states.

You have been served your medical minute.  Take care of your penis.  Give it plenty of action and keep it healthy.
