Lester Matthews

A couple years ago, we fell in love with the upgraded theme song to Lonnell Williams’ 3LWTV web series.  Now, we have a new one to put on replay.

California vlogger Newnue (a.k.a. Lester Matthews) connected with our favorite R&B crooner Damien Crawford to jazz up his web series theme song.  We must say that Crawford really delivered…as if we were expecting mediocrity…NOT!

What do you get when you put a catchy tune from our favorite crooner onto a show featuring one of our favorite personalities? A hot theme song, that is.  Check it out below.

@GListSociety Joins @DDirty531 (Da Doo Dirty Show) Talking About @AuthorJLKing’s Legal Woes & Black Gay Devils On The Scene

DJ Baker
DJ Baker

DJ Baker

Our very own Waddie G. joined Da Doo-Dirty Show’s co-hosts DJ Baker and Swanny River on their episode yesterday to talk about the recent alleged shady dealings surrounding “Down Low” author J.L. King.  We reported earlier this week that J.L. King lost a lawsuit and gained a tax lien over a ill-advised and fraudulent book deal with an aspiring gay author.

While Waddie G. and DJ Baker talked about King’s legal woes and shady business deals, the Da Doo-Dirty radio host compiled his list of the “Black Gay Devils” in the LGBT community.  Included in DJ’s list are Maurice Jamal (“Dirty Laundry”), Nathan “Seven” Scott and Seanmichael Rodgers (Embrace TV).  Though we do not endorse Jamal’s, King’s and Rodgers’ names on the list, we found DJ’s rant quite amusing.

Get into this great dialogue below.

@RodMcCullom’s Rod 2.0 Wins @GLAAD Media’s “Outstanding Blog Of The Year”

Rod McCullom

The G-List Society is inspired by the very best, and it is no secret that Rod 2.0 and Rod McCullom, my mentor, is one of most reliable bloggers in LGBT media.  Just when some of our readers assumed that people of color are not highly praised by the GLAAD organization, they should be glad to know that McCullom’s Rod 2.0 blog won GLAAD Media’s Outstanding Blog of 2013 award over the weekend.

Rod20-GLAADaward2013

Although my friend is shy when it comes to the spotlight, Rod 2.0′s recognition is well-deserved.  His coverage of news highlighting the LGBT community is unmatched.  Outside of his race, his spotlight on the LGBT coverage is widespread upon race, region and identification.  Very, very, very few LGBT outlets can say the same for themselves.

McCullom is an Black LGBT icon before our very eyes.  Without a site like his, many of your favorite Black LGBT online media personalities would not have the powerful platforms they have.  We all learned from someone, and they would be lying if they did not draw any inspiration from Rod 2.0.

Congratulations, Rod!!! I hope you win next year, unless you’re up against The G-List Society…LOL

MUST READ: STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM, STILL HERE? – The Lack of Financial Support in the Black/Latino Gay Community Via @DiscreetCity

gay dollars

Black gay money support

If you are a gay or lesbian of color and are proud to be in your skin, please take the time to read this article below.  Otherwise, we understand that you may not even care enough about yourself to make a difference in your life and the lives of your friends of LGBT people of color like you.

We ran into this article from Discreet City and appreciated its message so much that we had to share on our website.  Discreet City’s Nick Delmacy wrote a detailed essay recently identifying the reasons and solutions of the lack of financial support within the Black and Latino LGBT communities.

With the growing representation in media and entertainment created by everyday individuals among LGBT people of color including The G-List Society, Discreet City, 3LWTV, Rod 2,0, ADTV, No Shade, Drama Queenz among many others, how supportive financially, and even in viewership, are you and your peers when it comes to media and entertainment highlighting LGBT people of color in comparison to mainstream LGBT and mainstream entertainment and media at-large? Be honest. Your truth is neither good or bad, but it an opportunity for solutions.

Provided below are the quotes that intrigued us to keep reading, and we hope you do the same.

Money. It’s the driving force to everything. Having money can give individuals and organizations a great deal of power and freedom. When you consider the idea of pooling of money from multiple people in a community, this power and freedom is doubled tenfold. What if the black gay community employed this tactic?

.@Nathan7Scott Asks You To “Save” His A**hole; @DDirty531 (Da Doo-Dirty Show) Calls Campaign A Scam

Nathan Seven Scott
Nathan Seven Scott

Nathan Seven Scott

Our long-time friend and LGBT media ally DJ Baker of Da-Doo Dirty Show is calling out b*llshit on another New York LGBT personality.

Recently, Baker and his co-hosts Swanny River and Splash Tee took to the airwaves to call out author/blogger Nathan “Seven” Scott on an alleged scam to con supporters and well-wishers to “save” Nathan’s “ass.”

Scott sent online funding campaign e-mails to his contact list to support him as he is going through an anal surgery that will allegedly save his life.  This devastating news demonstrate how real the circumstances are often preached about how unemployment and uninsured health care affect the African-American communities, especially in the populous areas of the east coast.

In Scott’s one-minute video message to the mail recipients, he shares his experience as an unemployed, uninsured man in dire need of help. See the screenshots below.

Nathan Seven Scott - save his asshole1

Da Doo Dirty Show hosts, in particular Baker, immediately declared the donation need as a “legal scam,” referring to Scott’s donation site GoFundMe.com. The donation is backed by credible journalist sources including CNN.  Yet, Baker points out the sour business deals that Scott has villain-ized whose alleged victims include popular personalities Jared Paul Shuler and Adam Benjamin Irby, former co-hosts of Scott’s now-defunct “7″ show.

Here are our thoughts on the campaign.  There are two people in The G-List Society family, including Waddie G., who encountered very sketchy moments with Scott a few years ago on a “business” front.  As DJ Baker mentioned in the audio recording below, Scott’s falling out over spoiled “business” deals with other well-known LGBT personalities out of New York City have been the talk of the town.  Nonetheless, we would like to give Mr. Scott the benefit of the doubt and believe that his fundraising needs are real with the exception of one very interesting component of his need sounds very questionable.  Scott’s donation goal is $7,777.00, as shown above.  While it is possible that Scott’s medical expenses total that amount coincidentally, but because  of Scott’s notoriety or infamy in New York’s Black LGBT social scene has been built around his fascination for the number seven, questioning the goal amount requested does not sound unfair at all.

Regardless, we wish Nathan speedy recovery should his ailment is a real situation.

Check out the campaign below and Da Doo Dirty Show’s “expose”, and let us know what you think?

.@AConnectionTV’s @TeamMonaSamone Interviews @BGConOxygen’s @JanaeBGorgeous About #BGC10 Drama

Mona Samone

Mona Samone

A-Connection TV’s Mona Samone follows the “Bad Girls Club” like we at The G-List Society.  Thus, we are always excited to see the exclusives that she get from our favorite cast members.

In this interview below, “bad girl” Janae from season 10, which was set in Atlanta, gets grilled by Ms. Samone over her short tenure on the show.

We did like Janae, but she did not fit well on this season of BGC.  It had nothing to do with chemistry with the cast-mates.  Her version of being a “bad girl” is more like a party animal while the other girls’ idea of being a “bad girl” was seeing who could be the H.B.I.C. (head b**** in charge).

Though Janae lasted only a few episodes, she provided some insight on what was left on the cutting room floor about the drama that took place in that BGC house, especially surrounding who fellow cast members Alicia and Valentina, whom we liked the least, were really about.  She even dropped a couple of exclusive moments that occurred at the recently-taped reunion.   Read more

.@AConnectionTV’s @TeamMonaSamone Interviews @BGConOxygen’s @TheHeLLonHeeLs About #BGC10 Drama

Mona Samone

Mona Samone

A-Connection TV’s hostess Mona Samone loves the reality-TV show “Bad Girls Club” as much as we do.  We must say how jealous we are of Ms. Samone for snatching up the best exclusive interviews from the controversial divas of season 10, which was set in Atlanta.

In case you are unfamiliar with the “Bad Girls Club” franchise, the show is set up like the “Real World” except that all seven housemates are self-professed “bad girls.”  Collectively, the groups of cast-mates act like contestants from “Flavor Of Love” and “Rock Of Love” without a man to fight for staged romances.  Even though we consider ourselves classy at The G-List Society, we love the ratchetness of this show.  It’s sooooooo addictive.

Mona Samone got a juicy exclusive interview from our favorite cast member from this season Paula Hellens recently and they talked in detail about the dramas, fights and interchanging alliances that took place in the Atlanta mansion.

Press play to see what Ms. Paula has to say about her cast-mates after the show and the season’s reunion wrapped.

@NoMoreDownLow’s @KendellHogan Highlights @BODYBOYZUNITED’s Fitness Competition For Gay Men Of Color

Flex Porter
Kendell Hogan

Kendell Hogan (No More Down Low TV)

Los Angeles-based news series No More Down Low TV attended Body Boyz United Fitness Competition, the world’s premiere fitness pageant for gay men of color, and talked with founder/CEO, Syndey “Flex” Porter about its competition and the importance of health and fitness for all gay men of color.

Porter started Body Boyz United, of whom The G-List Society follows, years ago to promote fitness and nutrition among gay men of color.  With a strong presence through social media, Porter’s group ventured into vacation weekends in the west coast and will be launching a first-ever national fitness magazine for gay men of color.

It was exciting to see that the contestants interviewed in the competition come from all over the world.  California-native Joe Rose, Venezuela resident Angel Garet and winner Joe Rose from New York discussed how health and fitness are important to them and the sacrifices they made to participate in this competition.

Such great events happen in our community, most notably Body Boyz United, with beauty and health take front and  center to build the esteem of our gay men of color.  We are very proud of [Waddie G's cousin] Mr. Porter and wish him success.

Lawana Mayfield
Lawana Mayfield

City Councilwoman Lawana Mayfield

No More Down Low TV kicked off its third season with an empowering interview with Charlotte, NC Councilwoman Lawana Mayfield.  Mayfield won her first election for the government with an overwhelming majority vote of 70% last year and became the first openly-lesbian councilwoman in the entire state of North Carolina.

Mayfield shared her triumphant story with No More Down Low and recounted her days as an activist hitting the pavement to fight for LGBT equality and the encouragement she received from friend, clergy and her life partner to run for the city council.  Her belief in self awarded the seat, and she used her story to express the importance of leadership as she spoke in her interview.

Mayfield is a woman we all should admire.  Check out her interview video. Excuse the poor editing of her introduction.
