Just in time for the unofficial celebration for 4/20 (slang for marijuana), New York rapper Styles P. dropped a new music video and single “I Need Weed” to kick off the promotion of his album Float.  This should instantly garner the attention of weed heads everywhere.  On the other hand, do not assume that indulge in “Mary Jane” as we are aware that it is a celebrated activity in most cultures, especially in the LGBT community.

Apparently, New Orleans rapper Lil’ Wayne needs you to accept him as a rock star after conquering the hip-hop world for most of the past decade.  Wayne has two blatantly rock songs on his recently-released I Am Not A Human Being 2 album.  Now, he is guesting on this single from the [finally] reformed rap-rock group Limp Bizkit.

Remember when Bizkit was the last act who married hip-hop and rock genres a decade ago?  Though, Wayne has received lukewarm responses in his forays into rock music, I must say that this single, as well as the tracks on his latest album, makes him sounds more organic than Brooklyn hip-hop king Jay’Z spell with rock music.  Currently, Wayne sounds much better as a rap-rock artist than the uninspiring, easily-led-by-Drake hip-hop artist today.

Get into the hotness of Limp Bizkit’s new single “Ready To Go” featuring Lil’ Wayne right now.

NEW SONG: “Sweet Spot” by @OfficialFlo Rida (featuring May J)

Flo Rida is sexxxxxxxxy as hell, but his music…uhh ruhhhhhhh.  Let’s just say that the “Elevator” emcee really knows his lane is in the EDM (electronic music genre) and his music is inconsistent from huge party tracks to easily forgettable tunes.  Count his new single “Sweet Spot” in the latter category, but we cannot get enough of his phyneness, so we will give him pass.

Five years passed since the world got to hear a new album by R&B crooner John Legend (sans duet album with Philadelphia hip-hop collective The Roots).  Recently, his new single “Who Do We Think We Are” just leaked, and if you were a huge fan of his debut album Get Lifted, you will be pleased.  The song incorporates the sample-heavy retro soul track and it features rapper Rick Ross.

NEW SONG: “Fvck For The Road” by @Tyga (featuring @ChrisBrown)

Oh, Chris Brown…seriously. “Fvck for the road???”  First Beyonce with “Bow Down,” now we can add R&B heart throb Chris Brown to the list of very talented R&B musicians who feel the need to continue to dumb down  their superior artistry to ratchet music, a sub-genre that only does well in club and not sales.

Nonetheless, I am a huge fan of California rapper Tyga.  His new single “F— For The Road” is appropriate for his highly misogynistic discography.  This delicious hip-hop ballad serves as the second single for his highly sophomore album release that comes a year after his Careless World LP.

R&B/pop singer Rihanna won’t let the “Rihanna reign” up with the hot singles coming from her platinum-plus selling album Unapologetic.  The album’s third single, which is actually meant for R&B and club outlets, “Pour It Up” has topped the R&B airplay charts in America for three weeks and it will more than likely reign atop the charts for a few more weeks thanks to a hot new remix featuring southern rap icons Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Juicy J and T.I.

“Pour It Up” is considered Rihanna’s “ratchet” song among her long discography of hits, so the remix serves its purpose.  Wanna hear it for yourself?  Check it out below. Read more

GOLDEN RECORD: @GeorgeMichael’s “Father Figure” Ruled Popular Music 25 Years Ago & Still Bangs

As one of the several provocative singles that made up his classic 1987-released album Faith, British soulful pop singer George Michael’s “Father Figure” still stands as one pop music’s greatest songs and his fan favorite at live concerts.

Released as the third single to promote the universally-celebrated Faith album, “Father Figure” almost did not pan to be completed at its publicly-released form.  Originated as a dance track, the title would throw off anyone listeners who would assume that the tune was dedicated to his then-estranged father before listening.  The ambiguous track’s lyrics have often been interpreted as describing everything that Michael wants from his objection of his affection (presumably, a man since he publicly revealed himself as a homosexual years later) and Michael being the other love convincing his interest that he would be the better suitor.  Regardless, the haunting track with its sensual undertones earned the crooner his third consecutive #1 American single, his sixth overall, and success globally outside of his home country United Kingdom, where it barely missed the top ten.
