TV REVIEW: @SuperBowl 2013 Performances By @Beyonce @AliciaKeys & @IAmJud (Jennifer Hudson)

Beyonce-SuperBowl2

Beyonce-SuperBowlshow

Computer users burned the lines of social media throughout the Super Bowl event and until this very moment dissecting all the music performances that took place, most particularly Jennifer Hudson’s and Alicia Keys’ opening numbers and Beyonce’s half-time show.

Though I engaged in some fierce debates with Beyonce’s #BeyHive fan club on Facebook and Twitter, I could only imagine how they will accept my official assessment of each of the performances on The G-List Society blog.

One thing no one can deny last night is that Black women rocked Super Bowl 2013…to the point many probably forgot what teams played the game.

Go ahead and read my performance review recap of the three R&B divas.

THE G-SOUND: @Awntariyo Stuns Audience In First Public Performance In St. Louis

Awntariyo3

Awntariyo3

Awntariyo proves that sexual identification does not determine one’s ability to be a great rapper.

Up-and-coming hip-hop artists Awntariyo recently made a brave attempt at performing his debut single “Uh Oh” live in front of a packed audience inside of a bar and grille in St. Louis.  Performing your debut single anywhere must be nerve-wrecking.  Try being an openly gay hip-hop artist performing at a restaurant where everyday citizens gather reciting lyrics about your homosexuality.

Awntariyo is one brave soul.  He performed the track and was met with a thunderous applause.  Watch the video to find out why.

Damien Crawford2

Damien Crawford

Urban pop music sensation Damien Crawford entertained the crowd at New York hotspot Secrets recently as he performed a Rihanna fan-favorite tune “Numb” from her #1 Unapologetic album with two sexy female dancers in tow.   You already know how a Rihanna hit single will get the kidz in a dancing frenzy, but it is even refreshing to see one of our own entertainers to be able to on a great show performing that song.

Crawford as performed his popular hit “Get Down” from his much buzzed-about The Reign album which was released earlier this year.

@CodyBelew Performs And Underwhelming Rendition “Somebody to Love” On “The Voice”

Cody Belew

Eccentric performing artist Cody Belew is the one contestant on this season of the TV singing competition “The Voice” whom one cannot safely bet on what the outcome of his upcoming performance would entail.  After a rousing, yet memorable, rendition of Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love,” to which he did change the gender-words in the lyrics, Belew takes another musical detour at tackling “Somebody To Love” by Queen and its lead singer Freddie Mercury.

Singing a song by rock legend Freddie Mercury?  Did Belew have the vocal chops to pull it off?  You be the judge below.

Will Trevin Hunte’s @Tamor_11 “Greatest Love of All” On “The Voice” Save Him From Elimination?

Trevin Hunte

The top eight contestants on the hit TV-singing competition “The Voice” performed once again last night to move one step closer to winning as two performers will be eliminated tonight due to receiving the least amount of votes from American viewers.

Eighteen year old New York resident Trevin Hunte is a favorite on the show because of his humble demeanor and powerful whose show-stopping renditions of songs originally recorded by Usher, Beyonce and Bette Midler have been met with the judges’ praises.  In the continuation of covering tunes recorded by strong female vocalists, Trevin Hunte performed “Greatest Love of All,” a tune that was originally recorded by adult-contemporary singer George Benson but popularized by the dynamic vocal mechanics of R&B/pop music legend Whitney Houston.

How did Mr. Hunte fair?  You be the judge and watch the video below.

@CodyBelew @aquile @MelanieLBBH Advance Past @NBCTheVoice’s Battle Round

Melanie Martinez

This season of the hit TV singing competition show “The Voice” is spectacular.  The group of talents that made it past the blind auditions into the second round (a.k.a. Battle Round) are the best bunch the show and judges picked in all three seasons.

The competition these next few weeks will become stiffer as the chosen vocalists in the blind audition round must compete against one another in the Battle Rounds, performing a selected tune by coaches Christina Aguilera and company, in order to continue in the competition.

Tonight’s episodes showcased the more intriguing voices, different from the powerhouse vocalists of last night.  While the vocal stylings of contestants tonights were different than the stronger vocalists from last night, tonight’s duels were more captivating to watch.

The three I am excited who advanced from tonight’s episode were Cody Belew, who blew DOMO in a Lady Gaga song, Aquile and Melanie Martinez, whose hauntingly quirky voice may be the one to beat in my opinion.

Check out their stunning performances below.

De’Borah @Musictrappa Wins @NBCTheVoice’s Battle Round

De'Borah2

Congratulations go to Chicago vocalist De’Borah who just won tonight’s battle round against Nigerian-born singer Nelly’s Echo on “The Voice.”  Both contestants, mentored by “Fighter” singer Christina Aguilera, performed the classic Police song “Message In A Bottle.”  Though the pairing of a man and women seemed odd, the twosome have a similar singing style and swag that can crossover among soul, pop and pop/rock genres.  The Police tune was a perfect fit – chosen by Aguilera.
